ObamaCare Metaphor of the Day: “It’s getting the train out of the station.”

ObamaCare train wreck

The North Andover Eagle-Tribune reports the ObamaCare Metaphor of the Day:

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter told a boisterous crowd last night that the recently enacted health care reform bill is imperfect but needed.

“It is getting the train out of the station,” she said.

Absolutely correct. The ObamaCare Special has left the station and is now speeding down the tracks in one direction. Unfortunately, the DebtBomb Special racing down the same tracks in the opposite direction.

Nice metaphor, soon-to-be-former Representative Shea-Porter.

Spitzer goes from john to whore, begins anchoring on MSNBC

Ashley Dupre
Our fantasy: Ashley Dupre, MSNBC weather girl

Former New York Governor and Client Number Nine Eliot Spitzer has landed himself a new gig – guest host on MSNBC. And what better place for a lying, whoring, cheating lowlife?

Spitzer and Monica Novotny co-anchored for Dylan Ratigan. Mediaite reports that, “Through several interviews based on finance, but also foreign policy and more, Spitzer held his own, was engaging – and certainly proved this may not be a random occurrence.”

You know what would be perfect? If MSNBC hired Ashley Dupre to be Spitzer’s weather girl.

“The forecast calls for chilly temperatures. So make sure you wear your socks to bed again tonight, Eliot.”

Call us Client Number Ten. Because we’d pay to see that.

Florida Congressman confirms that he is clinically insane

If you had even the slightest doubt that Democrat Congressman Alan Grayson is seriously disturbed, this is the clip for you. For some reason that is completely inexplicable to any rational human being, Grayson decided to crash a Republican meeting at a restaurant in his district and berate those in attendance.

If you had even the slightest doubt that Democrat Congressman Alan Grayson is seriously disturbed, this is the clip for you.

For some reason that is completely inexplicable to any rational human being, Grayson decided to crash a Republican meeting at a restaurant in his district and berate those in attendance.

We can laugh at this buffoon’s boorish behavior, but only because he’s not our congressman. Imagine how angry/embarrassed/chagrined (choose one) his constituents must be.

NOTE: Our favorite moment comes toward the end of the clip when Grayson realizes that he’s being taped. Oops.

Sarkozy fears that Obama may be stark, raving insane

French President Sarkozy tries to escape from the clutches of insane American President Obama

Kumbaya, brothers and sisters. The presidency of Barack Obama will go down in history as one in which enemies became friends and friends became lovers and Obama himself ascended to his rightful place in the pantheon of gods.

Not.

The European Union Times reports on the latest little wrinkle in Obama’s grand plan:

A new report circulating in the Kremlin today authored by France’s Directorate-General for External Security (DGSE) and recently “obtained” by the FSB shockingly quotes French President Nicolas Sarkozy [photo top right with Obama] as stating that President Barack Obama is “a dangerous[ly] aliéné”, which translates into his, Obama, being a “mad lunatic”, or in the American vernacular, “insane”.

According to this report, Sarkozy was “appalled” at Obama’s “vision” of what the World should be under his “guidance” and “amazed” at the American Presidents unwillingness to listen to either “reason” or “logic”. Sarkozy’s meeting where these impressions of Obama were formed took place nearly a fortnight ago at the White House in Washington D.C., and upon his leaving he “scolded” Obama and the US for not listening closely enough to what the rest of the World has to say.

Apparently, as this report details, the animosity between Sarkozy and Obama arose out of how best the West can deal with the growing threat posed by rising Islamic fundamentalism. Both Sarkozy and his European neighbors had previously been supported in their efforts by the United States in forming an alliance to strengthen the integration of Muslim peoples into their societies, and has including France and Belgium moving to ban the wearing of burqa’s.

We’d say that Smart Diplomacy™ has now been replaced by Insane Diplomacy™, but we’re really having a little trouble telling the difference between the two.

Becky Gates: You need to stay in better hotels.

Democrats’ political strategy based on Salem witch trials

Shrill accusations, false testimony, over-emotional bleating. Hey, wait a second. Are we describing the Salem Witch Trials or today’s political landscape?

salem witch trials
The inspiration for MSNBC

Shrill accusations, false testimony, over-emotional bleating. Hey, wait a second. Are we describing the Salem Witch Trials or today’s political landscape?

According to salemwitchtrial.com, “In January of 1692, the daughter and niece of Reverend Samuel Parris of Salem Village became ill. When they failed to improve, the village doctor, William Griggs, was called in. His diagnosis of bewitchment put into motion the forces that would ultimately result in the death by hanging of nineteen men and women. In addition, one man was crushed to death; seven others died in prison, and the lives of many were irrevocably changed.”

Horrible, to be sure, but what was the burden of proof on the accusers? You couldn’t just yell “Witch!” and get someone you didn’t like killed. Or could you? Apparently the ‘proof’ was “Their names had been ‘cried out’ by tormented young girls as the cause of their pain.”

Well, there you have it.

Today’s political landscape sounds eerily similar, with Democrats filling the role of the tormented young girls. For example:

Democratic Congressman “Dick” Winder says “Palin Is Stoking Liberal Hate!!”

New York Times Columnist and MSNBC Talking Head Frank Rich says “Opposition to Obamacare is Racism”

Democratic Congressman Alan Grayson “Compares Republicans to Nazis”

The shrill accusations go on and on. In a thinly-veiled attempt to discredit the right and in a preview of what to expect in the upcoming mid-term elections, the left has launched an all-out media blitz crying “Witch, Witch, Witch!” and the media, hoping some real trials and maybe an actual death or two might result, provide wall-to-wall 24-hour a day coverage of the tormented young girls leftists.

All you need is a left wing sound bite and poof, instant witches ready for trial.

Good thing they didn’t have cable in Salem the death toll would have been considerably higher.

“You’re crazier than hell. Congratulations, you’re now a college professor.”

As Andrew Bolt points out, “Associate Professor Barbara Baird, head of Flinders University’s Women’s Studies Department, appears from her profile page to have taken her studies to heart…”

Surely, we're not the only ones to notice something a little unusual about Barbara

As Andrew Bolt points out, “Associate Professor Barbara Baird, head of Flinders University’s Women’s Studies Department, appears from her profile page to have taken her studies to heart…”

That’s Barbara’s photo to the right and this is a quote from “her” online resume:

From 2005 – 2007 Barbara held an Australian Research Council Discovery grant titled ‘Reconfiguring intimate life: Gender and sexuality as sites of national redefinition in Australian since 1996’.

But wait. There’s more:

Barbara Baird lives and works on the land of the Kaurna people, the Indigenous owners of much of the country occupied by the city of Adelaide. She heads the Dept of Women’s Studies at Flinders University. Her research has considered the history and cultural politics of reproduction and sexuality. Her concern is to place the categories of race and nation at the centre of such research via the use of theories of critical race and whiteness studies alongside feminist and queer theories.

Ahhh, your children are in good hands.

Uber liberal news magazine 60 Minutes has produced a segment that praises President George W. Bush.

Seriously. No kidding. For real.

60 Minutes actually credits George Bush with saving millions of lives in Africa thanks to his AIDS efforts. Here’s how the segment is introduced and you can view the entire segment above.

Simon: As President, George W. Bush did something momentous that few of you may know about, something so momentous that it is saving millions of lives and generating goodwill for America around the world. Millions of Africans who`d been dying of AIDS are now living with AIDS, thanks to the Bush program. The U.S. is providing pills to more than two million people with HIV/AIDS, people who could never afford them and who were condemned to die. The medicine not only saves their lives, it permits them to live full lives. We went to Uganda, where AIDS has ravaged the country, killing more than a million people. And where Doctor Peter Mugyenyi, a pioneer against AIDS, told us how grateful he is to Americans for saving his fellow Ugandans.

Mugyenyi: We thank sincerely the American people. They are the people who are saving lives. They are the people who can be proud that lives are being saved on this continent.

Of course, it’s well known that Bush developed his affinity for the Dark Continent while hiding out there to avoid serving in the National Guard.

Talk show hosts circle wagons around Oprah, won’t interview her unauthorized biographer Kitty Kelley

Larry King, Charlie Rose, David Letterman and Barbara Walters all turned thumbs down on interviews with celebrity biographer Kitty Kelly, whose unauthorized bio of Oprah will soon be released.

Kitty Kelley
The media protect their own by refusing to interview Oprah biographer Kitty Kelley

And considering Oprah’s current girth, a very wide circle it is.

Larry King, Charlie Rose, David Letterman and Barbara Walters all turned thumbs down on interviews with celebrity biographer Kitty Kelly, whose unauthorized bio of Oprah will soon be released.

Odd, one might have to conclude, considering the gleeful receptions Kelley received from those same hosts when she penned a scandalous bio of George Bush a few years ago.

Margo Howard reports the hypocritical headlines:

“… most of the kingpin interviewers in the mainstream media were astonishingly up front about saying they would not help Kitty Kelley promote her book because they didn’t want to offend Oprah! They didn’t even make up excuses; they flat-out said they didn’t want to offend Oprah. It was surprising, to say the least, that interviewers such as Larry King, Charlie Rose, David Letterman and Barbara Walters all shut her out. Walter’s turn-down was especially interesting in that she said she wouldn’t even have Kelley on “The View.” I mean, that’s a show with four or five babes nattering on, where no guest is on for more than maybe seven minutes. Walters told Random House publicity she didn’t want to “upset” Oprah. Letterman said he didn’t want to “disrupt” his détente with Oprah. And ABC, whose name might as well now stand for “All ‘Bout Cowards,” made an across-the-board decision that Kelley’s book would be boycotted by all ABC shows. Even second-tier people like Joy Behar followed suit. And Rachael Ray! A cooking show, no less.

Much to our surprise, Kelley has booked an appearance in one unexpected place.

… To their credit, the top show for people flogging books, “The Today Show,” will be Kitty’s first publicity stop when the book is released. Bill O’Reilly will be the second. I find all this really interesting. What is it, I wonder, that has major television people so afraid of Oprah? It is a question whose answer I look forward to finding in Kelley’s book. I will get back to you when I’ve read it.

To his credit, Matt Lauer actually gave Kelley a pretty good grilling when she appeared on the Today Show to hype her bio of George Bush.

Our advice? Don’t bother with Lauer and the Today Show. Wait until Kelley appears on Fox.

Scientists find lizard species with double penis. Too bad the name dik-dik is already taken.

Scientists in Indonesia were thrilled to discover a new species of lizard that has two penises. But we imagine they were heartbroken to learn that there is a species of African antelope that has already been named the dik dik.

The recently-discovered, doubly-endowed Indonesian lizard

The Telegraph UK reports that scientists in Indonesia were thrilled to discover a new species of lizard that has two penises. But we imagine they were heartbroken to learn that there is a species of African antelope that has already been named the dik dik.

The secretive but brightly-coloured beast, a monitor lizard, is a close cousin of the Komodo Dragon of Indonesia.

Unlike the fearsome Dragon, it is not a carnivore, nor does it feast on rotting meat. Instead, it is entirely peaceable and tucks into fruit.

dik dik
The inappropriately named African dik-dik has only one penis.

…The lizard has unique markings and an unusual sexual anatomy, according to the study. Its scaly body and legs are a blue-black mottled with pale yellow-green dots, while its tail is marked in alternating segments of black and green.

Males have a double penis, called hemipenes, also found in some snakes and other lizards.

The two penises are often used in alternation, and sometimes contain spines or hooks that serve to anchor the male within the female during intercourse.

Cool. It’s like sexual Velcro.

Democrat Congresswoman refines the art of ObamaCare doubletalk

Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, the extreme leftist representative from Florida, is either delusional or a liar. Or maybe both. In this clip, she tells a group of her constituents that levying fines on people who don’t buy insurance is different than requiring them to buy insurance. Completely different. No comparison at all.

Wasserman-Schultz admits that if you don’t buy insurance, the government will hit you with a hefty fine, but no, she insists, that’s not the same as requiring you to buy insurance.

She said it with an absolutely straight face, which leads to the frightening thought that she may actually believe what she’s saying.

Michelle Obama leads children in pagan fertility ritual. Or something.

Mrs. Obama and some of the children performed what she called a “growing dance” around the wooden planter. The group chanted “grow, rhubarb, grow” several times, then circled the planter and finished by throwing their hands in the air.

Those big city Chicago girls take to the farm like pigs to mud. So to speak.

First Chicago girl Hillary Clinton turned $1000 into $100,000 by trading hog bellies on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. And now Chicago girl Michelle Obama has become America’s leading agricultural expert.

The Christian Science Monitor reports from Michelle’s White House Garden:

“We harvested over 55 different kinds of healthy food — 55!” the first lady reported. “One thousand pounds of food! Can you imagine that?”

She told the students that no matter where people live or how old they may be, they can still garden, noting the fun of spending time outdoors and digging in the dirt.

To illustrate that point, the first lady knelt in the 1,500-square-foot garden and planted two rows of broccoli as well as some rhubarb.

After the rhubarb was in the ground Mrs. Obama and some of the children performed what she called a “growing dance” around the wooden planter. The group chanted “grow, rhubarb, grow” several times, then circled the planter and finished by throwing their hands in the air.

Immediately after completing the rhubarb dance, Mrs Obama led the children in the Rasmussen dance, in which the children chanted “Grow, approval numbers, grow.”

Stefanie Iris Weiss, author of Eco-Sex: Go Green Between the Sheets and Make Your Love Life Sustainable, warns that nothing can ruin your love life faster than committing these green sins.

Sin #1: Courting by car. Size does matter, especially when you’re talking about Big Oil. What woman in her right mind would want to go out with a guy who drives a sporty, luxurious, gas guzzling car?

Sin #2: Poison perfume. What? Big oil again? Weiss points out that, “Most perfumes are derived from petroleum, and some contain potential neurotoxins.” So she recommends that you wear organic essential oils. Does anyone know if whale oil qualifies as an organic essential oil?

Sin#3: Eating unsustainable chocolate. Don’t trifle with truffles unless they’re organic and fair trade certified. It’s been our experience that nothing turns a woman off faster than the thought of exploited field workers.

On April 1 – but make no mistake, this was not an April Fools Day prank – Greenpeace’s international website posted the following message on it’s homepage:

The proper channels have failed. It’s time for mass civil disobedience to cut off the financial oxygen from denial and scepticism. If you’re one of those who believe that this is not just necessary but also possible, speak to us. Let’s talk about what that mass civil disobedience is going to look like. If you’re one of those who have spent their lives undermining progressive climate legislation, bankrolling junk science, fuelling spurious debates around false solutions and cattle-prodding democratically-elected governments into submission, then hear this: We know who you are. We know where you live. We know where you work. And we be many, but you be few.

Obviously, this thinly-veiled blatant threat didn’t sit well with skeptics. The Greenpeace PR machine went into action, adding a supposedly soothing note to the blog that said the author was “known around the Greenpeace world for stating his opinion loud and clear, and not being a diplomat”. He is “a genuinely peaceful guy,” it went on to say, “who believes in the power of peaceful protest to change the world.”

Right. He believes in peaceful protest to change the world. Well, that and coming to you house and kicking your ass if he sees a gas guzzler in your driveway.

“I’ll take “Name Your Favorite Baseball Player” for $2000, Alex”

When baseball announcer and former player Rob Dibble asked President Obama, who claims to be a huge White Sox fan, to name his favorite player, the President sounded as if he needed his teleprompter.

When baseball announcer and former player Rob Dibble asked President Obama, who claims to be a huge White Sox fan, to name his favorite player, the President sounded as if he needed his teleprompter.

Dibble: “Having played with the White Sox for a short time, I know how the Cubs fans and White Sox fans go back and forth. Who was one of your favorite White Sox players growing up?”

Obama: “You know uh ….. I … I thought that … uh …. you know … the truth is a lot of the Cubs I like too! But, uh … I did not become a Sox fan until I moved to Chicago. Because I uh …. I was growing up in Hawaii so I ended up actually being an Oakland A’s fan.”

So the President of the United States, who claims to be a huge White Sox fan, stuttered and stammered and couldn’t name a single White Sox player.

As baseball fans, we find ourselves forced to call bullshit on the President. He got caught doing that politician thing by claiming to be something he’s clearly not. No real baseball fan would have to hesitate for a moment before naming his favorite player. Ask George Will the same question and see how quickly he answers.

For example, the editor of IHateTheMedia.com can still name the starting line-up and most of the rest of the roster from the 1959 Los Angeles Dodgers (who, coincidentally, defeated Obama’s Chicago White Sox in the World Series).

Off the top of my head:

Catcher – Johnny Roseboro
First Base – Gil Hodges
Second Base – Charlie Neal
Shortstop – Don Zimmer
Third Base – Jim Gilliam
Left Field – Wally Moon
Center Field – Duke Snider
Right Field – Carl Furillo
Starting Pitchers – Don Drysdale, Johnny Podres, Roger Craig, Stan Williams
Relief Pitchers – Clem Lebine, Johnny Klippstein, Larry Sherry, Danny McDevitt, Sandy Koufax
One Additional Player – Rip Repulski, my all-time favorite baseball name

This is not a complete list and it may not be perfect. I only named 18 of the 25 players and probably misspelled a couple of them and may even be wrong a time or two.

Fact is, real baseball fans can easily reel off the names of their favorite players on their favorite team. Those names are emblazoned forever in our minds, probably crowding out far more valuable information.

That doesn’t make real baseball fans smarter than the President. Just more honest.

America hates the media: 55% say media bias bigger problem in politics than big contributions

Dan Rather media bias It’s been a long, arduous journey for IHateTheMedia.com. There were times in the last 15 months when we thought we’d never succeed in our mad dream of convincing America that the media is a worthy object of their hate.

Then we saw this research from Rasmussen and realized that all is right with the world:

Voters agree that big money talks in politics but apparently not as loudly as big media.

Fifty-five percent (55%) of U.S. voters continue to think that media bias is a bigger problem in politics today than big campaign contributions, identical to the finding in August 2008.

Thirty-two percent (32%) say big contributions are the bigger problem, but that’s down four points from the previous survey. Thirteen percent (13%) more are not sure.

…Sixty-eight percent (68%) of Republicans and 62% of unaffiliated voters say media bias is the bigger problem in politics, a view shared by just 37% of Democrats. The plurality (46%) of Democrats says campaign contributions are a bigger problem.

Sixty-five percent (65%) of Mainstream voters and 54% of the Political Class agree that the bigger problem facing politics is media bias.

55% of America hates the media. Which is only fair, we suppose, since the media seems to hate America.

Don’t miss your chance to win the Al Gore Cardiac Arrest Sweepstakes

Ahhh, those irrepressible Alaskans. They’re all criminally insane, you know, especially that former governor of theirs. And now word wafts southward of an annual Alaskan contest that may bring global warming guru Al Gore to room temperature.

When the ice breaks, so does Al Gore's heart.

Ahhh, those irrepressible Alaskans. They’re all criminally insane, you know, especially that former governor of theirs. And now word wafts southward of an annual Alaskan contest that may bring global warming guru Al Gore to room temperature.

The Nenana Ice Classic is an Alaskan lottery which has been run each year since 1917. In January the townspeople mount a tripod out on the frozen Tanana River which runs through the town. The tripod is secured firmly to the ice and a rope runs from the tripod to a clock mechanism on the shore. When the ice breaks up, usually in late April or early May, the tripod gives way, and trips the clock.

The earliest ever ice break up was recorded at 3.27 PM, 20 April, 1940. The latest ever break-up was recorded at 11.41 AM, 20 May, 1964. Past break-up details here. Historically, the ice has broken most often between about 29 April and 8 May. Last year, the ice broke when many alarmists were distracted by their annual May Day celebrations.

Over the years, this event has mirrored global trends with, for example, the second earliest break-up occurring during the famously warm 1998, and the latest year, 1964, remembered worldwide as a cold year. Serious scientific studies have been done on the event and one climate change scientist described it as “a pretty good proxy for climate change”.

The ShadowLands invites commenters to make your best guess. The reader who supplies the closest guess will win our acclaim as well as a mandate for us to believe whatever they say about global warming for the next 12 months. They may also use the term “Closest Guesser, Nenana Ice Classic” on all official correspondence.

Enter today. And watch Al Gore’s face drain of all blood if it breaks the record for latest thaw.

And, after all Lincoln was answering an easier question on the higher purpose of the union and soldiers that fall in battle. Look the president had an easy answer. He could have said, “Hey I wanted to make history with health care and to do it and to make the CBO numbers look OK I had to raise your taxes. Sure it’s not a good time economically in the middle of a recession but politically I had to because I have a window a majority in Congress and I’m going to lose in November.” End of answer.”
