Monday: UK Home Secretary Jacqui Smith says she’ll fight Michael Savage’s libel claim. Tuesday: Smith resigns

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNeZZJihtDs In the words of the old Dinah Washington song, “What a difference a day makes, 24 little hours.”

On Monday, British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith announced that she would fight a defamation suit brought by American talk show host Michael Savage after he was barred from entering the UK.

On Tuesday, Smith submitted her resignation to unpopular Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Savage was “outraged” when Smith lumped him together on the list with a Ku Klux Klan grand wizard, a skinhead gang leader and a Hezbollah militant who spent 30 years in prison.

Savage, was reportedly asking for as much as $150,000 in damages and an apology.

British observers believe the Savage issue may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back for Smith.

Great Britain is currently embroiled in a scandal over Members of Parliament submitting fraudulent expense reports for personal items. Smith was caught up in the controversy when she submitted an expense report that included the costs of her husband’s porn purchases.

Whether you like Savage or not, you have to admit that he’s never been a danger to anyone. Except, perhaps, Smith and her career.

Jake Tapper is about this far from losing his seat
on Air Force One

Yeah, but it might have been nice if someone talked about this stuff before the election.
Yeah, but it might have been nice if someone talked about this stuff before the election.

ABC News’ Jake Tapper actually confronted the unconfrontable truth of Barack Obama’s Muslim roots Tueday on his ABC blog.

His willingness to deviate from the media’s blind allegiance to Barack Obama is truly startling. If Tapper keeps this up he’s likely to become ABC’s new Siberian correspondent.

The Emergence of President Obama’s Muslim roots

The other day we heard a comment from a White House aide that never would have been uttered during the primaries or gen4ral election campaign.

During a conference call in preparation for President Obama’s trip to Cairo, Egypt, where he will address the Muslim world, deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications Denis McDonough said “the President himself experienced Islam on three continents before he was able to – or before he’s been able to visit, really, the heart of the Islamic world – you know, growing up in Indonesia, having a Muslim father – obviously Muslim Americans (are) a key part of Illinois and Chicago.”

Tapper concluded:

In his April 6 address to the Turkish Parliament, President Obama reference how many “Americans have Muslims in their families or have lived in a Muslim majority country. I know, because I am one of them.”

Well, that clears it all up. He’s one of them. Because he certainly hasn’t acted like he’s one of us.

Brian Williams shows subservience,
bows to King Barack

NBC News anchor Brian Williams actually bowed to President Obama on Tuesday night. Unfortunately, the President was facing in the wrong direction, making it anatomically impossible for Williams to kiss his butt before leaving the White House.

“This,” the President thought to himself, “must be what ol’ King Abdul Aziz felt like when I bowed to him.”

Huffington Post goes crazy over Tiller murder and virtually ignores Army recruiter murder

Private William Long. Long may his memory live.
Private William Long. Long may his memory live.

We signed up for the Huffington Post’s Daily Briefs email list a few months ago. To the best of our recollection, while we receive their Daily Briefs, we’ve never received an “Alert” until May 31, when we received this one:

ALERT: Abortion Doctor Murdered At Kansas Church

Oddly enough, no such email alert was sent out the next day for this similar story:

Carlos Bledsoe, Muslim Convert Opposed To US Military, Shot And Killed Army-Navy Recruiter

It struck us as rather selective outrage, but we wanted to be certain before we made any wild, unsubstantiated accusations. So we went to HuffingtonPost.com and used its search function to compare the number of stories on the two murders. There were a least a hundred hits for stories referencing George Tiller’s murder. We say at least, because we stopped counting at that point as the list just kept going and going and going. We have no idea how many more there were.

Then we did another search to see how many references we could find on the Arkansas recruiter murder. Eight. That’s all. Eight. And no, we didn’t search for very specific words like “Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammad” or “Carlos Bledsoe.” We erred on the side of caution and performed very loose searches.

While it’s not an exact science, the results were clear: Far more than a hundred Tiller references, but just eight on the Arkansas recruiter (let’s give the poor, ignored guy a name–William Long) murder.

For further study, we then went to Google and did an advanced “site search” where you can search for words found on just a particular site, posted within a specified date range, and various other boolean search criteria. We searched just the HuffingtonPost.com website. The closest date range we could use was “past week.” Close enough.

The results were startling, but we’re not going to publish them because there are too many variables that can get called into question with the search terms. But we ask you to do to your own searches: go to Google, click on Advanced Search, enter “HuffingtonPost.com” into the search site field, set the date range, and try some of your own searches. Remember if you are putting two words together like William Long, they have to be keyed as “William Long” or it will search for William OR long, which will skew the results. Let us know what you find out.

But we did do two simple searches we will tell you about. We simply searched the the Huffingtonpost.com site for “George Tiller” and then for “William Long.” The results were 12,900 pages for George Tiller, but just 6 for William Long.

We understand the George Tiller was more well known than William Long, but Good God, can we honor Private Long just a bit more?

Our conclusion? Huffington Post has a genetic predisposition against the pro-life position. But they seem to have an equally strong pre-dispositon to ignore news that casts Muslims in a negative light.

It’s frightening to know how little Henry Waxman knows

Henry Waxman, a Democrat from California, admitted last week that he knew almost nothing about his preposterously expensive cap-and-trade bill. In this video, he admits that he knows almost nothing about illegal drugs. Or legal drugs. Or much of anything else.

But the guy does know how to get re-elected. And isn’t that the most important thing to know in Washington, DC?

Obama’s New York “date” may have cost $400,000. Hope he got laid.

"Oh, Barack, is that the Washington Monument in your pocket or are you just happy to see me."
"Oh, Barack, is that the Washington Monument in your pocket or are you just happy to see me."

The self-proclaimed “most transparent administration in history” announced on Monday that it would release no information regarding the cost of President Obama’s “date” in New York. Just won’t do it.

The administration’s policy seems to be summed up in these nine words: “Love to talk more. Just no time. Gotta go.”

The New York Post guestimated that the trip cost $24,000. The London Daily Mail put the figure at $75,000. But the Washington Times did additional research and came up with a far higher number: $400,000.

Their figure includes three helicopters that shuttled the First Couple to and from Andrews Air Force Base and all the air and ground personnel associated with that move. It includes the corporate jets that flew the Obamas and the ones that flew decoy duty. It includes a previously unmentioned C-17 cargo jet that flew all the cars for the President’s motorcade to New York and back. It included hundreds of additional Washington, DC and NYC policemen. It included the vast crew of Secret Service people who had to check the New York locations out in advance and also be there during the date.

We’re not sure what happened to the Obamas at the end of the date, but we’re pretty sure the taxpayers got screwed.

Audience member reacts as Tim Geithner quips, "I just flew in from Washington, DC. And boy, are my arms tired."

Poor Tim Geithner. He gave a speech at a Chinese university and attempted to reassure the students that their government’s immense dollar-denominated assets are safe.

“We believe in a strong dollar,” Geithner told the students at Peking University. “Chinese financial assets are very safe.”

The students laughed. Out loud.

Can’t blame them. You have to admit that it’s one of the funniest things you’ve ever heard.

Alternate energy: Power the homes of several average American families for a year with the fat sucked out of Michael Moore's wattle.

For some reason, we’re on corpulent corporate bashing Michael Moore’s email list.

Yesterday we got an email from our pal Mike that proved he’s as good an economist as he is a film maker.

He presents a 9-point plan to revitalize America. It involves mass construction projects including bullet trains, light rail systems, fleets of electric cars, windmills and solar panels, and hybrid cars and busses.

But how, you may ask, can we possibly afford all this? Well, Michael has the answer to that, too.

“To help pay for this, impose a two-dollar tax on every gallon of gasoline. This will get people to switch to more energy saving cars or to use the new rail lines and rail cars the former autoworkers have built for them.”

Yes, $2 per gallon. Overnight. Bang. The price goes up more than 50% overnight.

We have a better idea. Enforced liposuction on all obese film makers. Burn it like they used to burn whale oil back in the 1800s. We’d cut our foreign energy dependence overnight.

Ralph Nader accuses former DNC head Terry McAuliffe of bribery

Ralph Nader called Terry McAuliffe slipperier than an eel in olive oil. Eels across America protested the slanderous comparison.
Ralph Nader called Terry McAuliffe slipperier than an eel in olive oil. Eels across America protested the slanderous comparison.

“Terry McAuliffe,” Ralph Nader told the Washington Post, “is slipperier than an eel in olive oil.”

What brought about this uncharacteristically countrified attack?

Nader claims that McAuliffe offered his presidential campaign money to stay out of 19 battleground states John Kerry needed to defeat George W. Bush in 2004.

According to Nader, McAuliffe “basically said that if I stay out of 19 states which are close between Kerry and Bush, he would provide resources to me in the remaining 31 states.”

“He threatens, he promises, he cajoles, he jokes, he charms, he intimidates,” Nader said. “He really is not someone who should be governor and in possession of the public’s trust.”

A spokesman said that in his role as chairman of the DNC in 2004, McAuliffe “engaged in a conversation with Nader to try to convince him not to run, or at the very least to not compete in the targeted battleground states.” But no-no-no-no, he “never offered (Nader) any money” to get out of the campaign. Heaven forbid.

Nader is nuts. McAuliffe’s a liar. We don’t know who to believe. But if we had to put money on it, we’d go with Nader.

How about you?

Pardon us while we laugh: Air America tries to reinvent itself. Again.

Former Air America host Rachel Maddow. Or current Air America host Ron Reagan, Jr. We're not sure which.
Former Air America host Rachel Maddow. Or current Air America host Ron Regan, Jr. We're not sure which.

Air America breathlessly announced yet another corporate restructuring this week.

It’s starting its own network sales division, which will pitch all the company’s radio, video and online content directly to ad agencies instead of depending on third party rep Westwood One for ad sales.

“Agencies are sophisticated in their planning and their creative approach in making strategies for their clients, which will hopefully become our clients,” said Air America Media CEO Bennett Zier. “Because Air America is a particular type of company, and a left of center company, there are certain companies that want to advertise with us, and we want to be able to facilitate that and work with them more directly.”

“Air America is turning into a multimedia company,” Zier said. “And we are looking to attract listeners, viewers and readers with the radio and airamerica.com.”

The good news is that Air America’s management has finally discovered capitalism. The bad news is that it probably won’t trickle down to the air talent.

And we use the term “talent” very loosely.

Homeowners association declares war on ex-Marine over military decals on car

A Dallas HOA has ordered a disabled Vietnam vet to remove seven Marine Corps decals from his car, including the Marine emblem and Semper Fi slogans.

“To me, it’s being patriotic, and it shows that I served,” Frank Larison said.

The board says the decals are ads and violate HOA rules and must be covered or removed. If he doesn’t comply, the HOA says it will tow the car at Larimore’s expense and fine him $50 for any future incident.

Larison seems to have a lot of allies in the neighborhood.

“That is his identity,” Mary Castagna piped in. “He goes to a lot of the veteran meetings, and it means a lot to him. Everyone else agrees with it; it doesn’t bother anybody.”

“He’s in the Marines, and he’s proud of it, and I don’t blame him,” neighbor Paul Hardy commented. “If I’d gone through what he’s gone through, I’d be kind of proud of it myself.”

The complaint was delivered in a letter. Probably because the HOA board was afraid to say something this stupid to a former Marine in person.

Sneak preview of the first car developed by Obama Motors (formerly General Motors)

(Originally published three weeks ago, we felt today would be an appropriate day to rerun it)

It’s sleek. Powerful. And comes with a remarkably fuel efficient ethanol engine. It’s the 2010 Czar Car from Obama Motors.

obama_motorsDesigned by well-known automotive designer Barack Obama, the Czar Car simultaneously protects the environment and the President’s union constituents.

The Czar Car runs on ethanol and gets a million miles per gallon. Once a decade when your gas tank gets low, just pull into the cornfield in your neighborhood and say, “Fill ‘er up.”

The 2010 Czar Car is currently just a prototype, but you’ll soon see if being driven by members of ACORN as they travel around the country performing census duties and counting people who don’t exist in Democratic districts.

Best of all, the Czar Car comes with a lifetime guarantee supplied by the government of the United States of America.

And since it comes from the same people who brought you the Post Office and the Department of Motor Vehicles, we suggest you keep that warranty handy at all times.

Janet Napolitano wants to kiss and make up with Canada.

The Secretary of Homeland Security caused quite a dust-up north of the border last month when she said the 9-11 terrorists entered the United States from Canada.

Unfortunately, that statement is at odds with the facts. The 9-11 commission concluded that none of the terrorists came through Canada.

Napolitano wants to forgive and forget. Or more appropriately, to have Canadians forget what she said and forgive her. But instead of saying she’s sorry and accepting the blame for her comment, the diplomatic neophyte blamed the Canadian media and said she’s sorry they continue to dwell on her misstatement.

“Jeez, these Canucks are testy,” Napolitano reportedly thought. “Now when do I get to meet Dudley Dooright?”

She’s ecological, she’s hypocritical: Laurie David builds tennis court on sensitive wetlands

Walking, talking one-woman ecological disaster Laurie David.
Walking, talking one-woman ecological disaster Laurie David.

When Laurie David’s on the west coast, she lives in huge energy-sucking home high in the hills above Santa Monica. When she’s on the east coast, she lives in Martha’s Vineyard.

Martha’s Vineyard is also where her hypocrisy is current residing.

According to the New York Post, David, the executive producer of Al Gore’s global-warming documentary “An Inconvenient Truth,” was busted and fined $900 by the Chilmark Conservation Commission.

David was cited for violating the Wetlands Protection Act during the construction of a tennis court on her sprawling Chilmark property, when workers installed boards and stones to construct a path to the court.

But David — who spent weeks on the road with Sheryl Crow in 2007 during their Stop Global Warming College Tour — let her contractor, Bart Thorpe, take the fall for the violations. “She’s obviously a very busy person, and she trusted the contractor,” Thorpe told the Gazette. “I inadvertently made a mistake. It’s something she had no knowledge of . . . It’s a minor thing.”

Maybe it wouldn’t be such a major deal on the Vineyard if the supposed eco-obsessed celebrity hadn’t been cited for the exact same violation four years ago. In 2005, David constructed a stone fire pit, a barbecue area and a children’s theater stage in a wetlands area without a permit.

You can’t make this stuff up. If her ex-husband wrote it into a sitcom, you wouldn’t believe it.
