Liberal Nancy Pelosi wants bailout money for liberal San Francisco Chronicle

The front page of the San Francisco Chronicle from the days when it backed America instead of expecting America to back it.

There goes Nancy Pelosi again. First she wanted bail-out money to save some mice in the San Francisco wetlands. Now she wants bail-out money to save some rats in the San Francisco media.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Duh) asked Attorney General Eric Holder “to weigh the public benefit of saving The Chronicle and other papers from closure against the agency’s anti-trust mission to guard against anti-competitive behavior.”

She neglected to mention anti-competitive behavior by the government.

According to The San Francisco Gate, Pelosi’s letter said, “We must ensure that our policies enable our news organizations to survive and to engage in the news gathering and analysis that the American people expect.”

Obviously, what Pelosi meant to say is, “We must ensure that our policies enable Democrat-friendly news organizations to survive and to engage in the indoctrination and manipulation that the American people need.

Hey, wait a sec. Where’s our bail-out money? We want to pay ourselves $160,000,000 in bonuses, but there’s not quite enough in the petty cash jar.

We can track your cell phone. We just can’t talk about it.

All that cell phone location-tracking technology you see on “24” really exists.

jack bauer

The law says we can’t use it to track terror suspects or kidnappers domestically, but can use it in foreign countries. But we can’t talk about that. At least not on the record. Or attributed. (So this is off the record. And anonymous.)

Here’s how Fox News explains it:

“Technology that tracks millions of 911 calls from cell phones in the United States every month is being deployed in Middle Eastern and Asian-Pacific countries to track terror suspects — but legal obstacles prevent widespread usage in the U.S.”

Let’s skip ahead to the last two paragraphs, which is always the best part:

U.S. military officials in Iraq and Afghanistan did not reply to requests for comment on the use of cell phone tracking there, but a source close to the matter told FOXNews.com that the practice is widely used.

“In Iraq and Afghanistan, I see [cell phone tracking technology] used all the time,” according to the source who requested anonymity due to not being authorized to speak on the matter. “I see it being used as often as a helicopter. But [military officials] don’t talk about electronic warfare, even if it’s widely used.”

Notice how the ones authorized to speak on the matter don’t comment. But you didn’t hear it from us.

LA Times calls the kettle black, says “Conservative talk radio on the wane in California”

The Los Angeles Times looked through a keyhole this week and surveyed the landscape of conservative talk radio in California.

They made gross generalizations, told lies of omission, and distorted reality to prove a point that’s unsupported by the facts. The story would have been far more accurate had it been headlined, “Local radio on the wane in California.”

“The economy’s downturn has depressed ad revenue at stations across the state, thinning the ranks of conservative broadcasters.”

In order to be more accurate, the Times should have said, “The economy’s downturn has depressed ad revenue at stations across the state, thinning the ranks of all local broadcasters and all formats.”

The Times continued:

“(B)ut for all the anti-tax swagger and the occasional stunts by personalities like KFI’s John and Ken, the reality is that conservative talk radio in California is on the wane. The economy’s downturn has depressed ad revenue at stations across the state, thinning the ranks of conservative broadcasters.”

To be more accurate, it should have read, “The economy’s downturn has depressed ad revenue at stations across the state, thinning the ranks of all local broadcasters.””

“For that and other reasons, stations have dropped the shows of at least half a dozen radio personalities and scaled back others, in some cases replacing them with cheaper nationally syndicated programs.”

“Casualties include Mark Larson in San Diego, Larry Elder and John Ziegler in Los Angeles, Melanie Morgan in San Francisco, and Phil Cowen and Mark Williams in Sacramento.”

Oops. Ziegler did leave conservative powerhouse KFI, but was immediately replaced by Kennedy & Suits, two other local conservative talkers.

Contrary to what the Times would have its readers believe, conservative talk radio is faring better than the struggling radio industry in general and certainly better than floundering libtalk radio.

Take the Los Angeles market, for example.

KFI-AM, Rush Limbaugh’s conservative Southern California affiliate, is the dominant talk station in the region. The January 2009 ratings show KFI with a 4.3 share, higher than even its pre-election ratings. It is now the third highest-rated station in the market. It features 11 hours per day of local talk programming and its local morning and afternoon shows have tremendous ratings.

KTLK-AM, Los Angeles’ libtalk station, has a barely measurable 0.6 share, its lowest in the last four months. Far as we can tell, KTLK’s entire schedule is nationally-syndicated.

Let’s review: Conservative talk is booming. Lib talk is evaporating. Local conservative talk radio is booming. Local lib talk radio is non-existent.

We’re used to seeing the liberal Los Angeles Times putting its wagons in a circle to protect its own, but this story would have been more appropriate in the comic section.

Perhaps, just perhaps, this boils down to a case of jealousy on the part of the Times. After all, its circulation has dropped from a peak of 1,100,000 to a current anemic 739,000. It’s shedding sections, pages, employees, and prestige at a remarkable rate.

Which seems to indicate it’s actually liberal media that’s struggling.

Parents in Oregon aren’t laughing at comedian Steve Martin

steve martin picasso at the lapin agileSteve Martin once played “The Jerk.” Now some Oregon parents think he’s being one in real life.

Here’s the situation: A high school production of Martin’s play, “Picasso at the Lapin Agile,” was canceled when parents objected to its adult content.

Martin said in a letter to a newspaper that he wants to keep the play, conducted in other high schools without controversy, “from acquiring a reputation it does not deserve.”

Martin said he could understand how some parents might object to their 16- or 17-year-olds delivering some lines, and he said whether the play should be presented at the high school itself “remains something to be determined by the community.”

Then, in what can only be described as stunning hypocrisy, the comedian said he would ante up the money to have the same play produced with the same actors off-campus.

When Martin said it was “something to be determined by the community,” no one knew the community he was referring to was Hollywood.

Brazilian leader’s name too hard to spell. No proofreader in the White House?

Enough already with the mistakes Mr. Obama, enough!
Enough already with the mistakes Mr. Obama, enough!

Britain’s Prime Minister got a set of DVDs and the bum’s rush. The Russian Foreign Minister got a button that said, “Reset” or “Overcharged” or something. And now to complete the diplomatic trifecta, the President of Brazil got his meeting bumped and his name misspelled.

According to an AP report, aides to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said the Obama administration pushed his trip forward from Tuesday because of St. Patrick’s Day. (Apparently, the Commander-In-Chief is actually Irish and his name was originally spelled O’Bama.)

Then the printed White House announcement misspelled his name as “Luis Ignacio” instead of “Luis Inacio” and put Lula – a nickname that became a legal part of the Brazilian leader’s name decades ago – in quotes.

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva may represent the world’s fifth most populous nation and ninth largest economy, but his name is just too long for the Obama administration’s short attention span:

But it’s not all bad news. There is job opening for a proofreader at the White House (as long as your taxes are paid up).

Muslims don’t like TV show, beat the hell out of TV minister

l samuelThree Muslim men have brutally attacked a Christian minister in London because they didn’t like his gospel television show.

“If you go back to the studio,” they threatened, “we’ll break your legs.”

The Reverend Noble Samuel said, “(The first man) started slapping my face and punching my neck. He was trying to smash my head on the steering wheel. Then he grabbed my cross and pulled it off and it fell on the floor. He was swearing. The other two men came from the car and took my laptop and Bible.”

“They were having an argument with me,” he stated. “They were very aggressive in saying they did not agree with me. I said those are your views and these are my views.”

“I am frightened and depressed,” he added. “My show is not confrontational.”

And that’s the difference between these Muslim goons and us. We don’t like America’s Next Top Model, but we’d never attack Tyra Banks. We’re pretty sure she could kick our butts.

Geithner suffering from plague? Another nominee avoids him

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0NrPTMDfPA Senators chastise Timothy Geithner like an unruly schoolboy. Wall Street laughs at him. And potential assistants avoid him like the plague. It’s quite a comedown for the guy who was called “the smartest man in Washington” just two months ago.

Now prominent New York attorney H. Rodgin Cohen has become the latest Tim Geithner nominee to withdraw from consideration for the No. 2 job at the Treasury Department.

Fact is, the Obama administration is having big trouble filling posts at the Treasury Department. Geithner is the only nomination that’s cleared the Senate confirmation process.

A story earlier this week said:

US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is practically alone on the job, working night and day to cope with the worst economic downturn in decades.

Of the 15 key Treasury Department positions that require Senate confirmation, only one has been filled. Stuart Levey, a leftover from the previous administration, who as under secretary of the treasury for terrorism and financial intelligence, is not central to the crisis management however.

Unemployment figures which revealed Friday that 651,000 jobs were lost in February, showed the recession is running ever deeper, but Geithner, who started work in late January, has no deputy secretary, no under secretaries for international affairs and no deputy under secretaries.

With that in mind, that image of Tim Geithner toiling away at an isolated desk in the middle of a warehouse-sized office, dining on a cold pizza and a warm beer, we dedicate this song to the overworked and under-appreciated Secretary of the Treasury.

Blind governor smells taxes up the wazoo

david patersonIt is apparently true that those who lose one sense find their remaining senses enhanced. Blind New York Governor David Patterson, for example, can sniff out a new taxes like a sow rooting up a truffle.

Just read these brief news stories about two new taxes recently proposed by wily New York Democrats:

Stripper Tax Is Hard to ‘Bare’

A Brooklyn assemblyman introduced a bill yesterday that would require patrons to pay the state $10 every time they visit a strip club or topless joint.

Felix Ortiz, a Democrat, said the flesh fee could raise as much as $500 million for victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual abuse and child prostitution.

Source: New York Post

Now combine the story above with the one below and you begin to see how invasive the Democrats’ tax plans can be.

Governor To Bury Plan That Would Mandate Taxes On Dozens Of Recreational Items

With his approval rating plummeting by the day and thousands of angry New Yorkers urging him to find other ways to raise state revenue, Gov. David Paterson has decided to put a cork in his plan to impose dozens of “nuisance” taxes on recreational items…

Paterson had planned to mandate a sales tax on numerous items…Paterson was also going to eliminate the no-tax rule on clothing under $110, but will nix that idea, too.

Source: WCBSTV.com

So there you have it. On one hand, New York Democrats want to tax strippers. On the other hand, they want to tax clothes. Which means they will tax the shirt right off your back. And the shirt right on your back.

They’re naked, they’re Spanish, they’re lunatics

naked Spanish seal hunting protestors
Our high school Spanish is a little rusty, but we think he's ordering the #7 combination.

They had a lunatic convention in Madrid yesterday. They weren’t certifiable lunatics, of course, but they might as well have been. No matter what their mental state, it certainly made the media sit up and take notice.

One hundred or so senors y senoritas threw off their clothes and threw themselves on the ground in the Spanish capital to protest Canada’s annual seal hunt. We’re pretty sure there’s some sort of symbolism involved here, but we haven’t quite zeroed in on what it is.

The lunatics smeared themselves with a red liquid that represented the blood that’s spilled during the “massacre” (their word) of seals. Most of them were bare ass naked, but some of the more modest protestors wore red underwear.

“We want to sensitize people to the fact that animals are capable of feeling and suffering like us,” said Silvia Toval, “and to protest against the massacre of hundreds of thousands of seals which is about to begin in Canada.”

The seal hunt has been a tradition in Canada for 350 years. This year, the nation has approved killing 275,000 seals on the Atlantic coast.

Here’s our take: The hunt is brutal. We don’t want to see it. Don’t even want to hear about it.

We don’t want to know how sausage is made, either. But we’re not going to strip naked in Times Square in some sort of misguided pig protest.

Not after that last time.

Michelle Obama to star in comic book. Seriously.

Michelle Obama comic book
Michelle Obama fights for truth, justice and the socialist way.

File this in the Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction category. Last week we did a story about the odd intersection of Michelle Obama and Wonder Woman. This week the First Lady is getting her own comic book.

The Obama comic is due to hits the stands in April. It will follow her path from her childhood in South Side Chicago to her days at Princeton to her current lofty status as Mrs. Most Powerful Man in the World.

“I feel like the guy who invented the Furby,” publisher Darren Davis noted. “The reaction has been insane.”

We’ve read a lot of comics in our time and we’d like to offer Davis some free advice:

If you really want to make this thing work, give Michelle a super sidekick. Maybe his name could be Socialist Boy and his super power could be the ability to print and spend unlimited amounts of money. Michelle and Socialist Boy can join forces to battle their arch enemy, Free Market Man.

That would be gold. Pure comic book gold.

Where in the world is Matt Lauer’s living room?

NBC illustration
NBC illustration

The economy has dealt a vicious blow to one of Matt Lauer’s coolest perks.

No more gallivanting around the world during the Today Show’s annual “Where in the World Is Matt Lauer?” promotion. It’s been axed by producers who say the extravagant trip sent the wrong message in today’s tough economy.

The new plan calls for Lauer to spend five days trudging around “affordable” vacation spots in the United States.

If the Today Show really wants to save money, here’s another idea: Have Lauer stay right in New York and broadcast directly from his home.

Instead of lounging on the beach in the Seychelle Islands, he can lounge on his couch. Instead of dining at fine restaurants in Paris, he can eating pork and beans out of the can while standing at the kitchen sink. Instead of sleeping in five star hotels, he can catnap in a La-Z-Boy recliner in his den. Instead of interviewing exotic foreigners, he can interview his illegal Guatamalan housekeeper.

That’s what Hollywood types call riveting TV.

The White House is on, but nobody’s home

white_house_darkOutsourcing must be hitting the news media hard. Because you have to go overseas to get any critical or even objective reporting on the Obama administration.

The Daily Mail’s Don Surber is anything but chuffed with The One’s work habits: “Barack Obama is too busy posing for magazine covers to actually do the job to which he was elected.

“There is a price to be paid when a president throws a party every other night, weekends in Chicago or Camp David and poses for magazine cover after magazine cover.

“After 51 days in office, Barack Obama has appointed only 73 people to 1,200 jobs that require Senate confirmation.”

The London Independent reported: “Last week, it was all smiles and handshakes as Gordon Brown and President Barack Obama put on a show of unity in Washington.

“But yesterday, Sir Gus O’Donnell, Britain’s most senior civil servant, exposed transatlantic tension when he protested that Downing Street was finding it ‘unbelievably difficult’ to plan for next month’s G20 summit in London because of problems tracking down senior figures in the US administration. ‘There is nobody there. You cannot believe how difficult it is,’ the Cabinet Secretary told a civil service conference in Gateshead.”

Since the White House seems to be having so much trouble finding enough people to answer the phones, maybe Michelle Obama could invite over some of those homeless people from the soup kitchen. They already know how to work cell phones pretty well.

Networks celebrate Obama’s “whirlwind of activity.” Others take to the storm cellars.

<b>"Change is coming! Hope is coming! Run for your life!"</b>
"Change is coming! Hope is coming! Run for your life!"

NBC and ABC on Tuesday marked President Obama’s first 50 days in office this week. Sadly, they celebrated it.

“The President’s first seven weeks have been a whirlwind with often dramatic movement in all directions, on all fronts,” NBC’s Brian Williams intoned.

“Seven weeks ago,”ABC’s Jake Tapper commented, “just minutes after taking the oath of office, President Obama formally nominated his cabinet. He’s been a whirling dervish of activity ever since.”

For some reason, neither network mentioned Obama’s many failed nominations, his dithering over the the “stimulus” bill, Wall Street’s negative reaction every time he opens his mouth, his foreign policy gaffes, his the race toward socialism and destruction of capitalism, his aura of negativity, nor the astounding increase in debt he’s proposed.

Instead, the networks lovingly referred to the President as a “whirlwind” and a “whirling dervish of activity.”

In middle America, they don’t call it a whirling dervish. They call a hurricane. And they race down to their storm cellars until it’s safe to come out again.

Newsweek bashes Limbaugh, inks deal with Air America. Coincidence?

newsweek_limbaughAir America is going into the syndication business. And its first outside client is a Newsweek Magazine radio production called “Newsweek On the Air.”

In keeping with Air America’s corporate mission statement, the program has been on the air for 27-years, but no one is known to have ever actually listened to it.

In reality, this isn’t news. It’s merely the continuation of a long, friendly relationship between the two lib media sources. Like when Chris Dodd goes to dinner with Ted Kennedy.

For example, back in 2004 when Air America first hit the airwaves, Newsweek covered the event with an effusive story that was long on compliments and short on reality.

It is surely no coincidence that this “big” announcement falls on a week in which Newsweek’s cover story attacks conservative icon Rush Limbaugh, Air America’s arch enemy.

This really is an almost Zen-like concept: A radio network no one listens to syndicating a program no one’s ever heard from a magazine no one reads.

Obama introduces Alinsky Rule #13: Create successes that cannot be measured

rules for radicals 13Remember the movie “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark?” Indy found an ancient artifact that had been lost for thousands of years.

Well, slap a snappy fedora on the president and call him Indiana Obama, because he’s discovered socialist Saul Alinsky’s long-lost 13th Rule for Radicals. It is “Create successes that cannot be measured or disproved.”

Presidents used to say, “My plan will create X jobs?” Our new president says, “My plan will create or save X jobs.”

Every time he says it, the compliant media nod enthusiastically, scribble down that day’s number, and hope like hell reporters are among the ones that are saved.

For God’s sake, people, would someone please ask this guy how to measure this new statistical category he’s invented called “Jobs Saved.”

Thanks to this magical new “Jobs Saved” category, Obama can make up any number he damn well pleases. Even if jobs don’t budge an inch in the next four years, he’ll happily announce, “Due to our policies, we have saved 4 million jobs.”

To complete the analogy, Indiana Jones was afraid of snakes. So are we. Especially when they’re in the White House.

Hillary presses “restart” button with Russians, restarts Khruschev era

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhXwcn3BksA America voted for hope and change. We just hope they like the change they’re getting.

According to CNN, the Russian government just announced that they may base long-range bombers in Cuba for the first time since the 1962 Cuban Missle Crisis.

When Secretary of State Hillary Clinton presented her Russian counterpart with a special “Restart” button this week, he apparently took it as a sign his government could restart the Cold War.

Next thing you know, Vladimir Putin will channel Nikita Khruschev, show up at the United Nations, start pounding his shoe on the podium, and threaten to bury us.

You really need to upgrade your hiring process, President Obama. Next time you need a Secretary of State, may we suggest Craig’s List?

Vile cripple Larry Flynt claims he’s had more women than vile stroke-victim Hugh Hefner

larry flint tmz videoIn a battle between a vile hardcore porn publisher and a vile softcore porn publisher, wheelchair-bound Larry Flynt claims he’s had more women than Hugh Hefner. “

To tell the truth, we don’t care about either of these guys. They’re both living in the past.

But based on longevity, we’d give the nod to Hefner. As far as we can tell, the guy invented sex and most of the primary positions associated with it. He’s been doing it since dinosaurs roamed the earth. He drew the first centerfolds on the wall of a cave. The first issue of Playboy was a big seller in Sodom and Gomorrah.

This video shows just how wacky Flynt is. The TMZ reporter says, “How you doin’ tonight, sir.” Flynt’s entirely disconnected response is, “I’ve had more women than Hefner.”

Would someone please take the demented old codger home, wipe up his drool, and put him to bed.

Trump’s TV ratings sinking even faster than his real estate empire

celebrity apprentice cast

Poor Donald Trump can’t catch a break. If his current run of luck continues, “poor” may be the most appropriate to describe the real estate mogul and TV personality.

According to the Huffington Post, the second episode of Trump’s “Celebrity Apprentice” drew an audience 21% smaller than its season premiere episode.

That was about 25% less than ABC-TV’s anemic two hour programming block of “Desperate Housewives” and Brothers and Sisters,” which was also down 19%.

At this rate, it won’t be long until The Donald is spotting eating risotto served up by Michelle Obama.

75-year old Saudi woman gets 40 lashes, American media get reprieve

Ahhh, the beauty of Sharia Law. Coming soon to a country near you!
Ahhh, the beauty of Sharia Law. Coming soon to a country near you!

For some mysterious reason, this story’s barely made a blip in the news. Guess the American media’s just been too darn busy gushing over Michelle Obama’s arms.

A 75-year-old Saudi Arabian widow has been sentenced to 40 lashes and four months in jail for “mingling” with two young men who were not close relatives. One was her late husband’s nephew and the other was his business partner. Ah, the beauty of Islamic Sharia law.

One can’t help but notice the media’s striking lack of concern for women outside the United States. It’s rare to hear more than a whisper of protest from any print or broadcast media.

And the big name women’s organizations? Silent as Marcelle Marceau despite the fact that they’re always the first to say, “It’s one world. We’re one family of people. We’re all brothers and sisters.” Yet when confronted with horrible abuse in Muslim nations, the typical response is, “We must understand. We must not be so quick to criticize, because its their culture.”

Perhaps those 40 lashes would have been applied better to someone else. Send your nominations to IHateTheMedia.com.

Muslim leader tells true intentions: America will become a Muslim country

Muslims in America simply want to become good Americans. They just want picnics, beer bellies, and mortgages they can’t afford, like the rest of us. At least that’s what the media tells us.

Luckily, not-so-peaceful jihadists can’t keep their mouths shut. Stick a camera in front of one of these guys and he feels compelled to blab the truth. Apparently, a camera to jihadist is like sodium pentothal to a liar.

The attached video is from a Chicago-based TV show called Underground Railroad. They guest, Dr. Amir Ali, seems rather happy (eager, in fact) to announce that Islam and sharia law are coming to the good ol’ USA and that we’re destined to become an Islamic country.

Here’s another quote from Dr. Ali from the MarkedManner.com blog: “When Hitler reluctantly started to implement his ‘final solution’ in dealing with German Jews…whatever else he was, he was no dummy! What did he know about which we are as yet blissfully unaware?”

In the words of Joe Biden, “Gimme a f$#&kin’ break.”

Obama’s economic philosophy traced to childhood readings

Social scientists have long questioned the origin of President Obama’s most deeply-held economic philosophy.

Is it, they wondered, rooted in the mixed up mélange of cultures in which he was raised? Did it spring, as others suggested, from some genetic link to his father’s exotic homeland? Or does it arise, as some have proposed, from the spiritual awakening of his college years?

Now the truth can been discovered and can finally be revealed.

Barack Obama’s most treasured economic philosophies can been traced back to his extensive childhood reading of the works of Brant Parker and Johnnie Hart, two highly-regarded 20th century artists and political scientists.

The Federal Aviation Administration revoked David Keith Martz’ pilot license this week.

Martz got the FAA’s attention when they saw an online video in which Martz had sex with porn star Puma Swede while flying his helicopter over San Diego. The FAA investigated after the videotaped sexcapade was made available online.

“We’re going to review the video. We’re going to try to speak to everyone in the video, including the porn star, and we’re going to go from there,” FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said. “We probably should have taken a closer look at the evidence when it was first presented to us. And I can assure you, we’re doing that right now.”

To repeat, the guy from the FAA said, “”We probably should have taken a closer look at the evidence when it was first presented to us. And I can assure you, we’re doing that right now.”

NPR cuts newspaper subscriptions, still pays news anchors big bucks

You’ll be glad to know your tax dollars are being fiercely protected over at National Public Radio.

The publicly-supported broadcaster recognizes the tough times in which we live, so they’ve taken the radical step of slashing newspaper subscriptions from their budget. Here’s how the tragic news was broken to the staff:

As of April 1 NPR is canceling all newspaper subscriptions. We are making some arrangments to get the Wall Street Journal either on line or hard copy. You have until tomorrow to appeal this if there is a solid reason why you should be exempt. This is a cost saving measure company wide.

No word yet on whether they cut any of the exorbitant salaries paid to talent and producers. How exorbitant? How’s this:

Barbara Rehm, Managing Editor: $383,139
Robert Siegel, Host, All Things Considered: $350,288
Renee Montagne, Host, Morning Edition host: $332,160
Steve Inskeep, Host, Morning Edition: $331,242

Richard L. Harris, Afternoon Program Director: $190,267

So at a time when real world radio companies — those that don’t wallow in your tax dollars — are bleeding money, slashing salaries and laying off people left and right, NPR is cutting newspaper subscriptions.

Your tax dollars at work.

Joe Biden uncensored. Don’t listen if you can’t handle “the F-word”

Our reaction at the time? “Gimme a f*&$#ing break.”

Robert Gibbs drones on, White House reporter drops off

You’re the press secretary for the most powerful man on the planet. You’re in the middle of the greatest financial crisis in generations. Terrorists threaten the future of the world. Under the circumstances, people hang on your every word.

Unless you’re Robert Gibbs, the president’s press secretary. He smirks, he snarls, he smears, but even that isn’t enough to keep reporters from falling into deathlike trances during his daily press briefings.

One member of the White House press corps actually fell asleep yesterday. You can see her over the left shoulder of the reporter asking the question in this video.

It’s still a bit of a mystery who the heavy-lidded journalist may have been, but press corps observers say it appears to be Wall Street Journal reporter Laura Meckler, who is pregnant.

Our first inclination is to say, “Cut her some slack. She’s pregnant.” But upon further reflection, we’d like to amend that to, “Cut her some slack. She was listening to Robert Gibbs.”
