Poor Ed Schultz is now begging people to watch his MSNBC show

MSNBC’s ratings are in the dumper. Rachel Maddow just finished her lowest rated week ever. And poor Ed Schultz is now begging his radio audience to watch his TV show.

MSNBC’s ratings are in the dumper. Rachel Maddow just finished her lowest rated week ever. And poor Ed Schultz is now begging his radio audience to watch his TV show.

Here’s Ed groveling on his radio show the other day:

Schultz: We are trailing CNN for the month of October so we gotta get after it, Ed heads. We don’t want to lose, do we? Come on now. That’s the, the balloon boy really screwed me up. You know, it’s what happened! They cook up this balloon thing and we gotta cover it and everybody runs to CNN to the tune of three, four hundred thousand more people.

Now I gotta bust ass here to the end of the month to make sure we win this thing again! That’s what happens! That’s just the culture of it! I couldn’t find a political angle on the balloon thing, so that’s what hurt me, I guess, I don’t know.

The problem here, Ed, is that Balloon Boy coverage lasted just one day. How do you explain the rest of your miserable ratings?

MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer thinks all blacks look alike

MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer introduced her guest by saying, “Joining me now to talk about this and the nation’s real problem of joblessness, the Reverend Al Sharpton.” Unfortunately for Brewer, she was interviewing Jesse Jackson.

This really is hilarious.

MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer introduced her guest by saying, “Joining me now to talk about this and the nation’s real problem of joblessness, the Reverend Al Sharpton.”

Unfortunately for Brewer, she was interviewing that other race baiting black reverend, Jesse Jackson.

“I’m Rev. Jesse Jackson,” he said.

“Right. I’m so sorry,” Brewer said. “The script in front of me said Reverend Al Sharpton. I’m looking at your face. I know who you are, Rev. Jackson, we all do. I’m sorry.”

Can you imagine the howls of outrage that would have gone up if someone at Fox had made this mistake.

“It’s an indication of the raaaaaacism that pervades Fox,” Reverend Jackson would have said. Or maybe it would have been Reverend Sharpton. We can never tell those two apart.

Mika gets marching orders from the White House while she’s on the air

Since MSNBC is a real news organization – unlike Fox – it’s only natural that the White House should email Mika while she was on the air on Morning Joe.

Remind us again. Isn’t Mika the daughter of Mr. Mxyzptlk, Superman’s enemy from another dimension? But we digress.

Since MSNBC is a real news organization – unlike Fox – it’s only natural that the White House should email Mika Brzezinski while she was on the air.

And voila! Mika rolled over and played dead and delivered the White House’s talking points exactly as they had requested.

“The White House did just e-mail saying that interaction with Jake Tapper was not heated…”

Anita Dunn then placed a biscuit on Mika’s nose, where she obediently let it sit until she was given permission to eat it.

Beck vs Matthews. Pow! Beck vs Letterman. Bang! But especially Beck vs Olbermann. Zap!

Adios, amigos. MSNBC’s Schultz and Maddow losing viewers

MSNBC executives must be sweating bullets. Last quarter was a for the also-ran lefty network, and last week was even worse.

Why is this man smiling? He must not have seen last week's ratings.
Why is this man smiling? He must not have seen last week's ratings.

MSNBC executives must be sweating bullets. Last quarter was a ratings disaster for the also-ran lefty network, and last week was even worse.

For the first time since her premiere last September, Rachel Maddow failed to top 1,000,000 viewers all five nights of the week.

And Ed Schultz. Poor Ed Schultz. After his disappointing premiere back in April, networks executives reassured worried advertisers that his ratings would grow. In reality, they’ve actually become more abysmal. Last week the bombastic buffoon’s total audience fell under 500,000 viewers three of the five nights.

Maddow has a bit of an excuse because Keith Olbermann wasn’t around as a lead-in to her show. But she’s been able to top that magic million mark during previous Olbermann absences.

Meanwhile, O’Reilly, Hannity and Beck have turned Fox News into the 1927 Yankees of cable news.

That sound you hear is the gnashing of teeth emanating from MSNBC’s executive suites.

Fox News kills competition, Glenn Beck’s ratings make mockery of boycott

Beck’s ratings are higher than ever. Remarkably, his show doesn’t run during primetime, yet his audience is larger than every prime time on every cable news network except Fox News’ O’Reilly-Hannity tandem. How long until Fox moves him into a more prominent time slot? And who will go to make room for him?

Congressman tells Lawrence O’Donnell “You’re illustrating why MSNBC’s viewership is in the tank”

It’s been a bad week or so for MSNBC’s grating, obnoxious host substitute Lawrence O’Donnell. A really bad week.

He recently conducted what has been widely called “the worst interview in history” while filling in for Ed Schultz.

Apparently O’Donnell didn’t see the reviews, because he tried the same obnoxious, pushy tactics while filling in for Chris Matthews on Friday.

But this time the result was different. Republican Congressman John Culberson of Texas came out with all barrels blasting:

“You know, Lawrence, for your listeners, you’re illustrating why MSNBC’s viewership is in the tank. Because you don’t allow your people you’re interviewing to answer questions. And, you know, Lawrence, this is why Katie and everybody else is going to Facebook, everyone’s going to the Internet because why listen to MSNBC when you won’t even let the people you’re interviewing answer the question?”

Letting Republican congressmen make you look bad is no way to get a regular gig, Lawrence.

CNN’s new strategy: “Hey, nobody watches us so let’s attack the people they do watch.”

Ratings-challenged Campbell Brown reported on the feud between Bill O’Reilly and Keith Olbermann and actually mentioned that their ratings handily top hers.

CNN has fallen to a miserable third in the cable news ratings and they seem to have adopted a very strange strategy to win viewers back: Reporting how they’re getting their asses kicked.

Ratings-challenged Campbell Brown reported on the feud between Bill O’Reilly and Keith Olbermann and actually mentioned the fact that their ratings handily top hers. (She neglected to mention Nancy Grace’s program on HLN also hands Campbell her ass on a platter during the 8 p.m. hour.)

Congressman Paul Ryan bitch slaps MSNBC hosts in healthcare debate

Republican Congressman Paul Ryan schooling two MSNBC hosts about ObamaCare. It’s not just that they’re ignorant, it’s that they’re proudly ignorant.

This is a thing of beauty – Republican Congressman Paul Ryan schooling two MSNBC hosts about ObamaCare. It’s not just that they’re ignorant, it’s that they’re proudly ignorant. If you want to skip ahead to minute 03:28, it really gets good when Katrina Vanden Heuvel joins the discussion to demonstrate her complete ignorance.

Katrina Vanden Heuvel: You have good government-plan health care. Why shouldnt all Americans have what you have?

Congressman Paul Ryan: I have good private-sector healthcare. We do not have a public option. The federal employee plan lists a number of private plans to choose from to select and my employer, the taxpayer, pays for a portion of these private plans. There is no public plan option in the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program. You are mistaken on that point. My Patients Choice Act that I’ve introduced with Congressman Nunes, Senators Burr and Coburn actually proposes just what youre suggesting: give people the ability, in State-based exchanges, to have a plan just like what we have here in Congress. A private health care plan that’s actuarially equivalent to what we in Congress have. We actually had a vote in the House Ways and Means Committee on an amendment I offered with Congressman Dean Heller which said, “Let’s put members of Congress in this public health care plan so that we can experience the same thing we want to impose on the rest of the country.” You know what? That amendment failed on nearly a party-line vote.

Katrina Vanden Heuvel: Competition is at the heart of America. To deny Americans competition by denying them the option of a public plan seems to me to be un-American.

Congressman Paul Ryan: What’s weird about that line right there, Katrina, is that I know you and others are very much in favor of a single-payer plan, which is obviously to deny competition and have the government run it all. What’s concerning about this debate with me is that you’re using capitalist rhetoric to try and move a plan that is inherently anti-market. The problem is that the facts tell us this: A public plan option quickly becomes a government-run monopoly. The actuaries are telling us is that in a few short years, the public plan option displaces the private sector, employers dump their employees on the public plan and then they have no choices but the public plan. And so, let’s not try to sell a government-run plan using free market rhetoric. Let’s have an honest debate about what this bill is all about.

Honest debate on MSNBC? Get serious, Congressman Paul Ryan.

Time for Ed Schultz’ MSNBC show to be euthanized?

After sixteen weeks on the air, MSNBC’s EdShow is on life support. Instead of growing, its ratings have gone down. In fact, they’re lower than those of David Schuster, who was booted from the time slot to make room for Schultz.

Tuesday, April 7, the day after Ed Schultz’ premiere show, MSNBC officials tried to put a happy face on the sad results by saying that they were “pleased” with the initial ratings and that they expected the show to grow over time.

How can CNN attract advertisers now that it’s fallen into third place in the cable news ratings? Simple. Just ignore reality and announce that you’re still number one

The staggering news network is now airing a TV commercial in which it proudly boasts that it is “No. 1 with more viewers than Fox and MSNBC.”

In reality, Fox has been kicking CNN’s butt since early 2002 and had more viewers than CNN, MSNBC and HLN combined last quarter. Not just in prime time, but all day long. Hell, even sickly MSNBC topped CNN for the first time last quarter.

So how does CNN justify its demonstrably false claim?

Simple. They cherry picked an obscure statistic media buyers generally don’t accept — a cumulative number based on the total number of people who tuned into the network for six minutes or more per month.

Naturally, CNN chose not to reveal their alternate reality in the commercial.

Interesting to see that the news isn’t the only thing distorted on CNN. At least they’re consistent.

MSNBC’s Angry Ed Schultz caught with his hypocritical pants down

MSNBC host Ed Schultz preparing for another informative show
MSNBC host Ed Schultz preparing for another informative show

We sincerely apologize for any unpleasant images that headline may have brought to mind, but it seemed appropriate.

Within the course of one hour on Monday night, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz condemned David Feherty for joking about the death of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, then turned around and praised Wanda Sykes’ for joking about the death of Rush Limbaugh.

“My thoughts on the White House correspondents dinner,” Ed said at the top of his show, “the best jokes and why I’m so glad Wanda Sykes took it to Rush Limbaugh.”

Ed rolled tape that showed Sykes’ comments. Well, most of Sykes’ comments. “Limbaugh said he hopes this administration fails. So you said, I hope America fails. I think Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker but he was just so strung out on Oxycontin he missed his flight.

Ed conveniently edited out these offensive words: “Rush Limbaugh. ‘I hope the country fails.’ I hope his kidneys fail. How about that.”

A few minutes later, Schultz featured Feherty’s joke about killing Reid and Pelosi. He condemned Feherty and called the joke “insanity” and “sick.”

Our best guess is that Ed knows he can say any damn thing he wants, no matter how stupid or hypocritical, because he knows virtually no one is watching his show. If a tree falls in the forest and no one’s there to hear it, does it make a noise?

MSNBC’s EdShow on life support. Where’s
Dr. Kevorkian when you need him?

Where did MSNBC find a shot of angry Ed Schultz actually smiling?
Where did MSNBC find a shot of angry Ed Schultz actually smiling?

“Just give Ed Schultz time,” they said at MSNBC. “We’re happy with the numbers for his premiere show. It will build over time.”

Now that the EdShow’s been on the air for a full month, let’s review how angry Eddie’s audience is building.

Uh-oh. Look at that. Schultz is sheddding viewers faster than a snake shedding its skin. And, yes, the comparison was intentional and apt.

The EdShow premiered amid great hype and hoopla on Monday, April 6. It drew a total audience of 725,000 viewers and 247,000 in the coveted Adults 25-54 demographic.

Four weeks later, Monday, May 4, the EdShow had a total audience of just 531,000 and the Adult 25-54 demo has shriveled to just 161,000.

Believe it or not, that’s an improvement. Ed’s audience has been as low as 365,000 per night and the Adults 25-54 demographic once fell to only 75,000.

To make matters even worse, Ed’s ratings are no better than David Schuster garnered on his last night in the same time slot. Shuster’s total audience was larger at 579,000 compared to the EdShow’s 531,000. Shuster’s Adults 25-54 demographic was 153,000 compared to the EdShow’s 161,000. This has to be a huge disappointment to MSNBC after all the time and money they invested in the EdShow.

Would someone please put a mirror under Big Eddie’s nose? Find out if he’s still breathing. Because his show is dead.

Obama can’t even order a cheeseburger without looking like an elitist

Just to prove he’s a man of the people, President Obama took Joe Biden to a burger joint called Ray’s Hell Burgers yesterday. Unfortunately, the President wasn’t quite up to the task of acting ordinary.

Obama seemed lost. Didn’t know what to order. Didn’t know how to order. He did his best shuck and jive with the kid behind the counter, but was lost when it came to ordering.

Joe Biden, the Cheap Veep, quickly realized the lunch was a freebie, so he jumped right in front of Obama and ordered. “Swiss cheese burger, jalapeno peppers. Will you put ketchup on it or do we do that ourselves? And a root beer.”

When Obama finally ordered, he looked like he should have taken his teleprompter to lunch instead of Biden. “Alright…(PAUSE)…I’m gonna have a basic cheddar cheese burger…(PAUSE)…medium well…(PAUSE)…uh…(PAUSE)…I just want mustard. No ketchup…(PAUSE)…You got a spicy mustard or something like that? A Dijon mustard or something like that?”

Who the hell goes into a place called Ray’s Hell Burgers in a limousine and asks for Dijon mustard? It was very reminiscent of the intentionally elitist Grey Poupon commercials.

And guess what. When MSNBC and CNN showed tape of the President’s day at Ray’s Hell Burgers, they both snipped out the Dijon question. After all, neither network could allow the President’s elitist reality to conflict with his man-of-the-people image.

Here’s CNN’s version of the Elitist’s trip to Ray’s Hell Burgers. Hold the Dijon.

“Obama seems terribly uncomfortable hanging out with the little people. Maybe he should have invited his teleprompter instead of Joe Biden.

Prejudiced scientists say swine flu was passed from pigs to humans. How are we to know it wasn't the other way around?
Pig rights advocates are furious that conservatives continue blaming the porcine community for the spread of so-called Swine Flu. They are expected to air their complaints on MSNBC next week.

“These swinophobic comments are very hurtful,” one distraught pig supporter will say. “All we want is the right to be sick like everyone else.”

“This flu isn’t a choice,” another protester will say, “It’s genetic.”

Perez Hilton will also come to the defense of the pigs, saying, “Anyone who blames this on the pigs is a stupid sow.”

MSNBC’s primetime schedule will be filled next week with programs supporting the oppressed swine minority in their battle for equality.

“Anyone who criticizes pigs,” Keith Olbermann is expected to hiss, “is a Nazi.”

“I support the swine,” Chris Matthews is predicted to say. “So from now on, Obama is only going to give me thrills up the hamhock.”

“I’m behind the pigs all the way,” Rachel Maddow is expected to say. “And I’ll support them as soon as I’m done with all my teabagging puns.”

And Ed Schultz will say…ahhh, crap, who cares what Ed Schultz might say.

Intimidation, domination, annihilation: Fox News beats CNN and MSNBC combined

"Sssssh. Please don't tell advertisers about this debacle."
"Sssssh. Please don't tell advertisers about this debacle."

Fox News gave CNN and MSNBC a good, old fashioned whuppin’ in April.

They beat CNN and MSNBC combined every hour of the day from 6 a.m. to midnight in Total Viewers and the all-important Adults 25-54 demographic.

Fox dominated across the board. They laid claim to the top eleven cable news programs in Total Viewers. They also took home 12 of the top 15 shows in the 25-54 demographic.

MediaBistro.com gives more details:

From 9amET on, every program grew by more than 60% in the demo. The 5pmET hour, now occupied by Glenn Beck, is up 212% in the demo and up 128% in Total Viewers. Your World with Neil Cavuto is up 102% in the demo and up 60% in Total Viewers. On the Record with Greta Van Susteren is up 75% in demo and up 55% in Total Viewers. Also in demo: FOX Report is up 75%, Special Report 70%, The O’Reilly Factor 74% and Hannity 64%.

Fox & Friends has now been #1 for 90 consecutive months, Studio B with Shepard Smith for 80 consecutive months.

Fox News is now has the second highest number of Total Viewers on all of cable television. And they’re set their sites on toppling the long-time number one-rated USA Network.

Keith Olbermann immediately curled up into a depression-induced fetal position and has yet to come out of it. MSNBC may need to air reruns of Olbermann’s Countdown program until he recovers.

Bias by the numbers: Measuring the media’s 100-day love affair with Obama.

Yes, we get it. The main stream media loves Barack Obama.
Yes, we get it. The main stream media loves Barack Obama.
A study conducted by the nonpartisan Center for Media and Public Affairs and California’s Chapman University has actually measured the amount of drool in the slobbering love affair
the MSM has been carrying on with Obama for the last 100 days.

MediaBistro reports, “Not only has Obama gotten more coverage, but that coverage has been more positive than his predecessors.”

“On the ABC, CBS, and NBC evening newscasts, 58% of all evaluations of the president and his policies have been favorable, while 42% were unfavorable. That compares with 33% positive in the comparable period of Bush’s tenure and 44% positive for Pres. Clinton.”

Maybe you’re wondering how the MSM (sans Fox) can be in such agreement with The One’s agenda. Turns out there’s a reason beyond the Administration’s daily phone calls with George Stephanopolous.

Washington Post media writer Howard Kurtz reveals that key MSM journalists are meeting furtively for swanky dinners at The Watergate where Administration bigwigs spoon-feed talking points to their left-wing media enablers. (Off the record, naturally.) Kurtz comments, “the catered gatherings…sound rather cozy, like some secret-handshake gathering of an entrenched elite. Are the top-level officials, strategists and foreign leaders there for serious questioning or risk-free spin sessions? And what exactly is the journalistic benefit if the visitors are protected by a shield of anonymity?”

Fortunately these reporters are no longer anonymous. Want to know the names of the media lapdogs eating out of the Administration’s hand? According to Kurtz, “Among those in regular attendance are David Brooks and Maureen Dowd of the New York Times, Gene Robinson and Ruth Marcus of The Washington Post, NBC’s David Gregory, ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, PBS’s Gwen Ifill, the New Yorker’s Jane Mayer, Vanity Fair’s Todd Purdum, former Time managing editor Walter Isaacson and staffers from Bradley’s Atlantic and National Journal, including Ron Brownstein, Andrew Sullivan and Jonathan Rauch.”

As Kurtz next points out, unsurprisingly, “The networks have given President Obama more coverage than George W. Bush and Bill Clinton combined in their first months — and more positive assessments to boot.”

“On Fox News, by contrast, only 13 percent of the assessments of Obama were positive on the first half of Bret Baier’s “Special Report,” which most resembles a newscast. The president got far better treatment in the New York Times, where 73 percent of the assessments in front-page pieces were positive.”

This explains a lot. While the competition is busy slobbering, Fox is clobbering.
